Aspect Ratio Cropper
16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 1:1, 21:9, Custom
Crop to 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 1:1 or custom aspect ratios.
Process up to 200 images per job — pick your settings once, run them all.
Pick an aspect ratio from the presets — 16:9 widescreen, 9:16 vertical, 4:3 standard, 1:1 square, 21:9 ultrawide, 4:5 Instagram portrait, 3:4 iPad — or punch in a custom ratio. Drag the crop window over the part of the image you want to keep. Download the result. Manual control when you don't want the AI to choose for you.
When you'd reach for an aspect-ratio crop
Repurposing content across formats is the everyday work of anyone publishing online. The 4K landscape photo you took doesn't fit Instagram's 4:5 feed crop. The portrait you shot for LinkedIn won't work as a 9:16 Story without a re-frame. The 16:9 hero image needs to become a 21:9 banner for the website redesign. Aspect-ratio cropping is the manual version of Smart Crop — same end result, but you choose what stays.
How to use it
- Drop your photo. Any format: JPG, PNG, WebP, HEIC.
- Pick a preset from the dropdown, or type a custom ratio (e.g. 7:5).
- Drag the crop frame over the area you want to keep. The frame's shape stays locked to your chosen aspect; you can move and resize it but not change the proportions.
- Pick output dimensions. Default is the largest possible at your chosen aspect that fits inside the source.
- Download. Output is a JPG (or PNG if input was PNG). Quality preserved.
Preset aspect ratios — what each one is for
- 16:9 widescreen — desktop wallpaper, YouTube thumbnail, hero banner, slide deck slide
- 9:16 vertical — phone wallpaper, Instagram Story, TikTok, Reels
- 4:5 portrait — Instagram portrait feed (the bigger one); slightly more vertical real estate than 1:1
- 1:1 square — Instagram standard feed, profile pictures, app icons
- 4:3 standard — iPad screen, older monitor format, classic photography aspect
- 3:4 portrait — iPad portrait orientation, magazine-cover aspect
- 21:9 ultrawide — ultrawide monitor wallpaper, cinematic aspect (35mm film)
Aspect-ratio crop vs smart crop vs resize
Aspect-ratio crop (this tool): you pick the area. Manual control, fastest for one-off precision work.
Smart Crop: AI picks the area centred on the detected subject. Faster for batch work where there's an obvious subject.
Resize: changes dimensions, preserves the entire image. Different operation entirely.
Use this tool when the photo's composition matters and you want manual control over the crop. Use Smart Crop when you trust the AI to pick the focal point. Use Resize when you don't want to discard any of the image.
