Replace the background in your photo with a soft studio gradient — the kind you see in professional headshots and product shots. Multiple colour presets (grey, beige, blue, midnight, warm) plus configurable light direction. Subject cutout is automatic; the gradient is composited behind with a soft falloff that mimics real studio lighting.
Why a studio gradient instead of a flat colour
Flat backgrounds can look harsh in portraits; the eye expects some falloff (brighter near the subject, darker at the edges) because that's what a real backdrop with soft lighting does. Our studio backdrops bake that falloff in — the result feels like a real photo from a real studio rather than a Photoshop composite.
For a true flat colour use one of the colour-specific presets: White, Black, Blue, or Custom. Use the studio backdrop when the goal is a portrait that looks shot in a studio.
Backdrop presets
- Charcoal grey: classic corporate / actor headshot.
- Warm beige: beauty and lifestyle.
- Midnight blue: editorial, dramatic.
- Soft pink: beauty industry standard.
- Forest green: outdoorsy or eco-brand.
How it works
- Upload portrait or product shot.
- Pick a backdrop preset. Tweak light direction (top, side, key+fill).
- Preview the composite. Cutout edges and gradient blend are shown live.
- Download. JPG output, 4K-friendly resolution.
Best source photos
Even, soft lighting on the subject. Avoid very dark or very bright spots that fight the gradient. If your source needs help, run Exposure Fix first.
Frequently asked questions
Will the result look obviously fake?
Less so than a flat-colour cutout. The gradient and soft falloff cover the cutout edge in a natural way.
Can I add my own gradient?
Premium accounts can upload a gradient or background image. Free uses the preset palette.
Does it handle group shots?
Yes — multiple subjects are detected and kept against the new backdrop.
Does it work on full-body shots?
Yes — the gradient extends to fill the frame regardless of subject size.
What about ground shadows?
Subject shadows are lost in cutout. We composite a soft synthetic shadow under the subject as an option.
Best output size?
4K-friendly (3840px long edge) on premium; 2K on free.
Will it work for product shots?
Yes — products look great on warm beige or midnight gradients.
Are images stored?
No — uploads deleted within 24 hours.
